Bredtvet Resource Centre is a Norwegian national resource centre for special education, representing interdisiplinary expertise within the field of speech, language and communication disorders.
Bredtvet Resource Centre gives service to children, adolescents and adults with serious, specific and complex speech- and language disorders. The centre is responsible for 75% of the Norwegian population.
The centre has specialised competence in the following areas:
The municipality is responsible for providing educational facilities for children, adolescents and adults with special educational needs. Bredtvet Resource Centre’s main task is to give professional support to the local authorities. As far as possible, assessment and treatment should be carried out locally, to promote integration and inclusion into their local community. But when needed Bredtvet Resource Centre will provide a high level of professional special education support in a flexible contractual collaboration with local authorities.
The centre also develops competence in special needs education through targeted research, experimental and developmental work organised in co-operation with universities, university colleges and other associates.The centre provides different types of information regarding the various impairments as well as relevant research in the field. A number of courses, workshops, different projects and networks are arranged in order to enhance the competence of the local/regional professionals.
Students of logopedics and psychology can get their practical training at the centre.
